Berne

The friendly Swiss community of Berne presents an inviting opportunity to relax among a peaceful countryside and farmland where life's pace is slower.

Nestled near the headwaters of the Wabash River, folks enjoy a hospitable welcome as they observe the horse-drawn Amish buggies and authentic Swiss architecture.

Founded by Swiss immigrants in 1852, the settlers were known for their quality craftsmanship and legendary work ethic.

Berne is known as the furniture capital of Indiana with a large quality furniture manufacturer and several furniture stores.

The area has one of the most intriguing Amish settlements in the United States.  They continue to find contentment in a simpler way of life.

In July, Berne annually celebrates its Swiss heritage with a well-known Swiss Days festival.  Later in the fall, a visit to the Swiss Heritage Village during their festival provides the opportunity to step back time.
