New Bridge Gives Economic Boost
2/22/2010
At the Decatur City Council meeting on February 16 an announcement of some good economic news was shared.  The news...a new bridge over the St. Mary's river north of the Bunge operations in Decatur.  The current bridge is 113 years old Pratt Truss bridge and with it's weight limits it restricts Bunge to shipping rail cars that are not full.  And that's not cost effective; meaning Bunge isn't operating at its most competitive which is always bad for business.  The new bridge will provide an economic boost for Bunge, but Bunge won't be the only ones to get a boost.  The South Adams Trails group will get the old historic 1897 bridge to use as a part of the South Adams Trails project.  Great economic news all around and the benefits are likely to multiply.
