DECATUR! TOP MICROPOLITAN COMMUNITY

DECATUR, IN — The City of Decatur, Indiana has been designated as a Top Micropolitan community for 2022 by Site Selection Magazine. This is the second designation for the City in the past three years.

The designation comes as the result of qualified projects developed within the “micropolitan”, which is a community with populations less than 50,000. The qualified projects consist of those with significant impact, including manufacturing plants, research & development, operations & logistics, among others.

To be considered as a qualified project, based on the sectors above, new facilities or expansions must meet at least one of three criteria:

Involve a capital investment of at least $1 million;

Create at least 20 new jobs, or;

Add at least 20,000 square feet of new floor area.

“We are thrilled to see the City of Decatur receive this designation for the second time in three years. It shows the major movement that is happening in Decatur and Adams County. For Decatur to receive this designation, when the competition is nation-wide is something to shout from the City Hall rooftop,” stated Colton Bickel, Executive Director of the Adams County Economic Development Corporation.

“It is exciting to see the reinvestment and new investment in our community. I am proud of the partnership we have with Adams County Economic Development Corporation in supporting the needs of our local businesses as well as offering opportunities for new investment and growth in our local economy,” said Dan Rickord, Mayor of the City of Decatur.

Based on the number of projects, Decatur tied for seventy-seven. Regionally, Auburn received the highest ranking at number five, followed by Angola tied for ninth place with several other communities. Richmond, Huntington, Vincennes, Washington, Crawfordsville, Peru, Marion and Warsaw also made the list for the State of Indiana.
